BEUBC Activity Report for 2013

The Belarus EU Business Council is a Brussels based NGO established in 2007 as an independent forum for Belarus and EU business leaders. The purpose of the Council is to promote trade and investment between the EU and Belarus. BEUBC assists companies to develop business opportunities. BEUBC promotes dialogue between governments and companies to help solve market access difficulties and overcome regulatory obstacles that hinder EU Belarus trade.

The main topics of our work in 2013 were:

With the support of our members, we planned and organised the following activities:

1. Finance and Investment Opportunities

In order to intensify business ties between Belarusian and European business, the Belarus EU Business Council launched the Belarus EU Investment Club with the goal of bringing together Belarusian and foreign businessmen, representatives of state bodies, officials, and business support organisations to network and exchange ideas about investment projects implemented or planned in Belarus.

The Launch Event took place on 11th of April at the Crowne Plaza Minsk Hotel introducing the new member of the Council - NEC Neva Communications, one of the world's leading providers of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions.

The launch event was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Industry, the International Monetary Fund, leading IT, audit and law firms and other companies both from Belarus and abroad. Further information

The Second Meeting of the Belarus-EU Investment Club was organised by the Belarus-EU Business Council (BEUBC) with the support of the KPMG in Belarus – the member of the BEUBC – on the 13th June 2013. Almost 90 participants took part in this business networking meeting from more than 40 organizations and companies. Further information

The Third meeting of the Club was dedicated to the topic "Logistics - investment opportunities for EU and Belarusian companies in Belarus" and was inspired by the BEUBC new member - a law firm PETERKA & PARTNERS. The meeting took place on 26 September at the Crowne Plaza Minsk Hotel. Further information

The Fifth Belarus Finance and Investment Conference - Developing Business Competitiveness and Attracting Foreign Capital: Opportunities presented by the Customs Union and WTO membership was held in Minsk on…November 2013 and brought together potential investors interested in Belarus, international experts with experience raising capital via international financial markets and managing directors and chief financial officers of private companies and state-owned enterprises. 2. Market Access

Belarus EU Business Council participated in the NATION BRANDING & INVESTMENT EXPO 2013 that took place on 16-18 April 2013 at Beursgebouw, Eindhoven, The Netherlands. On the invitation of the organizers and Hennie Kuijken, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus in the Netherlands, Ekaterina Tsaranok of the Council made a presentation on the economy and investment opportunities in Belarus. The Belarus EU Business Council organised the visit to Scotland of HE Sergei Aleinik Ambassador of Belarus to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in November. Further information

3. European Neighbourhood Policy

The Belarus EU Business Council organised a conference on the subject of European Neighbourhood Policy – Eastern Dimension: Prospects and Benefits that took place at the Artis Centrul Hotel in Vilnius on Tuesday 9th July followed by a networking cocktail. Further information

As a part of the EastInvest consortium, the BEUBC continues to participate in the activities for the project organised by te Eurochambres. This year, the BEUBC hosted a reception on behalf of Belarus for the Brussels delegates of the Eurochambres members in December at the Eurochambres premises.

4. Image of Belarus

In order to promote awareness of slavic cultural heritage, the Council organised in collaboration with Liberty Communication asbl the concert “Le Dialogue musical” on 13 March, 2013 in one of the  most beautiful and old halls of Brussels - Royal Philharmonic Society of Belgium.

Three virtuoso pianists Youlia Zaichkina & Alexander Mogilevsky and Matthieu Idmtal,  the representatives of two generations, two piano schools, Russian and European will took the audience into a fascinating journey into the era of romanticism. Further information

The Belarus EU Business Council participated in the opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Breath of Autumn” of a famous Belarusian artist Olga Gouskova. The ceremony took place on 19 October in Brussels. Further information
